Do you have a disability or impairment? Can you help shape HMRC’s online services?

To help HMRC improve their existing online services and develop new ones, they regularly run research sessions with disabled people to make sure services can be used by a wide range of people and assistive technology. However, sometimes finding someone who matches the profile of the service and has a disability can be difficult.

HMRC offer a vast range of online services via GOV.UK. They are always looking for volunteers to help them make sure their online services are built to meet user needs and are inclusive and accessible to all.

Can you help? You do not need to be good with computers or the internet to be part of their research community and give valued feedback. Depending on the type of research session you take part in, you may be offered a shopping voucher as a thank you for your time.

If you would like to get involved, you can join HMRC’s ‘user panel’ (details below). As a first step you will be asked to provide details about yourself such as which HMRC services you already use, how you use computers, tablets and smartphones and where you live. This only takes about 5 minutes.

You will then be invited to research sessions that are appropriate to you; this could be in person or online. If you want to help in person, HMRC will either ask you to come to a government or public building or to visit you at home or work, to talk to their researchers. If you want to take part in research online, you may be asked to try out a new transaction on GOV.UK for example. You do not need to travel anywhere for these sessions but you will need your own internet connection, computer, phone or tablet to take part.

To sign up, you must be 18 or older and live in the EU. The sessions can take between 30 minutes and 1 hour. You can say if you would prefer to meet researchers or do online research when you sign up. You can always say no to an invitation.

HMRC are keen to get as many people as possible to join up. If you would like to get involved, you can join the HMRC user panel or telephone 03000 513300. You can unsubscribe from the user panel at any time.
